
Detectives in Mbita Sub-county, Homa Bay County, are investigating a tragic murder incident in which a six-year-old boy is alleged to have been killed by his father during a domestic quarrel in Nyasumbi village.
The incident was reported on Wednesday morning, April 1, 2026, police said.
Officers visited the scene in Nyasumbi village, Ngondhe sub-location, Gembe North location and established that the minor was fatally attacked, sustaining severe head injuries.
Police allege that the suspect used a jembe to repeatedly strike him.
In the same incident, a second victim was also attacked and is currently admitted in critical condition in the hospital, police said.
Police recovered the suspected murder weapon at the scene and secured it as an exhibit.
Crime scene investigators processed the area before the child’s body was moved to Mbita Sub-county Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted.
The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing, police said on Thursday.
Police said the suspect fled the scene, and efforts to trace him were ongoing.
Meanwhile, a 39-year-old woman was found dead in a thicket in Gatundu, Kiambu County.
Police identified her as Jecinta Wambui Kigo, adding that the body was found lying in a thicket and unclothed.
The body had bruises on the left knee and deep cuts on the right side of the head, believed to have been inflicted with a sharp object by unknown assailants at an unknown time.
It also had signs of strangulation on the neck, while her clothes were found beside her, torn with a sharp object, when it was discovered on March 31.
The motive of the killing was not immediately known. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.
In Theta, Juja, Kiambu County, one Christopher Muli was found dead outside his house in a suspected murder incident.
Police said he had been living alone in the area, and the cause of death is yet to be established.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending further investigations following the incident that happened on March 30.
Police in Kakamega Central Sub-county are also investigating an incident in which an 18-year-old man died after a quarry collapsed on him while harvesting sand.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in the Achibeywa area within the Butsotso South location.
Police said Sylvester Ambani had been trapped when the quarry caved in. The deceased was in the company of other workers harvesting sand when the quarry suddenly collapsed, burying him beneath a heap.
His colleagues, with the help of members of the public, managed to rescue him while he was unconscious.
He was rushed to a nearby private clinic before being referred to Butere Sub-county Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.
The body has been preserved at the hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination as investigations into the incident continue.
