Elderly couple electrocuted in tragic incident

Two people including a man aged 84 died after they were electrocuted while trying to connect a WiFi cable in a village in Sengera, Kisii county.

Police said the incident happened on Sunday night.

Joseph Mosoti was the first one to be electrocuted as he tried to connect a wifi cable to his house.

The cable was close to a Kenya Power pole and was outside his house.

Witnesses said a neighbour identified as Esther Oirere, 60, who was oblivious of the dangers lying ahead, rushed to the rescue of the old man after he screamed for help.

She was also electrocuted and died on the spot.

Police and Kenya Power officials were called to the scene and collected the bodies to the mortuary for postmortem.

The officials said they are investigating the incident. This is the latest such incident to happen and is blamed on illegal connection or use of quacks for wiring.

There is a campaign to address the menace both in rural and urban areas.

In Takaungu, Kijipwa, Kilifi county, Osman Ali, 25, was stabbed and killed in an altercation with his friend.

The motive of the incident was not immediately known, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary.

In Aboke, Ugenya, Siaya county, a mob burnt down houses belonging to a murder suspect.

Police said three houses were set ablaze in the incident following the murder of one Samuel Oduor in the area.

Elsewhere in Elwak, Mandera county, police said they were investigating an incident where a girl aged eight and a Grade 1 pupil at Alueis Primary School died in a water tank.

The juvenile girl is said to have drowned in the tank as she played with her colleagues on Sunday evening.

The body was retrieved from the scene to the mortuary for other procedures, police said.

Another drowning incident was reported in Gatundu, Kiambu county where one Lucas Kinuthia was found dead in the Karumeru stream.

Witnesses said he had tried to swim in the river when he drowned on March 22.

The search for the body continued on Monday after his gumboots and clothes were found on the riverside, police said.
