Comedian and radio presenter Francis Munyao (MCA Tricky) has revealed that he once considered leaving mainstream media alongside three colleagues to start an independent media venture.
Speaking during an interview with Alex Mwakideu, the entertainer said the idea involved a group of four media personalities: Mwakideu himself, Chris The Bass, Jacqueline Nyaminde (Wilbroda), and Tricky.

Plan to Exit Media Houses

According to Tricky, the group had discussed resigning simultaneously from their respective roles in order to establish their own media station.
“We were to resign and start our own media station tukiwa wanne… Alex, Chris, Wilbroda na Tricky,” he said.
The four have previously worked together in radio, particularly at Milele FM, where Mwakideu has hosted the breakfast show and worked alongside different co-hosts, including Tricky, Wilbroda and Chris The Bass.

Tricky noted that the discussions reflected a shared ambition among the presenters to explore independent media ownership amid changing dynamics in the industry.

Advice Against Group Decisions

However, the comedian indicated that the plan did not materialise. Reflecting on the experience, he shared a personal lesson about decision-making.
“In this life, never decide to do something in mass,” he stated during the interview.
He suggested that making major career decisions as a group can be complicated, particularly when individual priorities or circumstances change.

Background in Radio Transitions
Tricky’s remarks come against a backdrop of frequent movement within Kenya’s radio industry. He previously resigned from Radio Maisha after nearly two years, stating he wanted to focus on personal projects.
He later joined Milele FM, where he worked with Mwakideu before changes in programming saw presenters shifted across different shows.

Mwakideu himself has also publicly addressed career uncertainties, at one point announcing and later reversing a decision to leave Milele FM following internal discussions.
