A 25-year-old man died after being electrocuted while allegedly attempting to gain entry into a bar through the rooftop in Kathiani Sub-County, Machakos county.
Police said the incident occurred at a bar in Mukukuni Market within Muonyweni Village.
Police said they found the lifeless body of Stephen Ndeto Kyalo lying on the rooftop of the premises.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the bar attendant had closed the establishment on Friday at around 11:20 pm and remained with a customer who was settling his bill.
Moments later, they heard a commotion and screams coming from the rooftop.
Upon checking, they discovered that the deceased had allegedly attempted to access the bar through the roof after finding the main door closed.
In the process, he came into contact with a live, exposed electric wire and was electrocuted, dying instantly.
The scene was documented and processed by crime scene investigators, and the body was moved to Kangundo Level IV Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.
Police have urged property owners to ensure proper insulation of electrical wiring to prevent similar fatal incidents.
A postmortem examination confirmed that a police officer who died in Kitengela, Kajiado County, succumbed to electrocution.
Police said the autopsy on the body of the late officer, Jackson Mwirigi, was conducted by pathologist Simon Omuok in the presence of family members and investigating officers.
The pathologist concluded that the cause of death was electrocution. The body was moved to Meru for preservation as burial arrangements continue.
Elsewhere, a rescue operation continued Saturday in Kieni East Subcounty, Nyeri county, after a man is suspected to have suffocated while digging a borehole in Ngarariga Village.
Police said the incident was reported on Friday, March 20, and preliminary information indicates that two individuals were engaged in digging a borehole estimated to be 75 feet deep when one of them, identified as Stephen Gitahi, descended into the hole to continue excavation as his colleague remained above, assisting in pulling out soil.
However, Gitahi suddenly stopped communicating while inside the borehole, raising fears that he may have suffocated due to lack of oxygen.
The Nyeri County rescue team was called to the scene to retrieve him, but efforts were unsuccessful due to heavy rainfall, forcing the operation to be postponed.
Authorities are expected to resume the rescue mission once conditions improve, as concerns remain over the victim’s survival.
Meanwhile, police in Mt. Elgon Subcounty, Bungoma county, are investigating a drowning incident after the body of a 38-year-old man was found in a water-filled trench in Kaptama area.
