Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kuria East, working jointly with officers from Kegonga Police Station, apprehended the suspects after launching investigations into the incident in which a motorist was robbed at gunpoint of Sh320,000.

Police said the vehicle was intercepted by a gang of about seven men riding on three motorcycles. One of the attackers was armed with a rifle and pointed it at the driver as the group demanded money.

The assailants made away with Sh320,000 that had been placed on the vehicle’s dashboard before fleeing the scene.

The detectives revealed that during the confrontation, the victim managed to pull out the magazine from the rifle that had been pointed at him, briefly disrupting the attacker and creating an opportunity for the gang to escape.

The magazine, which was loaded with seven rounds of 7.62 × 39mm ammunition, was later handed over to the police as evidence.

Following the incident, detectives launched investigations and traced the suspects to Korumagucha Village in Kuria East, where three individuals aged 24, 40 and 44 years were arrested in connection with the robbery.

During the operation, officers recovered a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle suspected to have been used in the robbery.

Police also recovered a Samsung mobile phone, a hat, a shoe believed to have been dropped by one of the suspects during their escape, and Sh36,000 suspected to be part of the stolen cash.

Authorities say the recovered items are expected to play a crucial role in linking the suspects to the crime as investigations continue.

The three suspects are currently being held in police custody pending arraignment in court.

Meanwhile, detectives have intensified efforts to trace other members of the gang believed to have participated in the robbery and who remain at large.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has reiterated its commitment to pursuing individuals involved in violent crimes and ensuring they are brought to justice.

They have also urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies by providing information that can help combat crime.
