Ruto begins five-day development tour of Western in Kakamega

President William Ruto on Sunday evening arrived in Kakamega County to begin a five-day development tour across the counties of the Western region.

The President started the visit by inspecting the ongoing rehabilitation and expansion works at the Kakamega Airstrip.

According to Ruto, the project is expected to enhance regional air connectivity and stimulate economic growth in the region.

The rehabilitation works aim to upgrade the airstrip to better support passenger and cargo operations, which will help boost trade, tourism, and investment in the Western region.

The inspection marked the first activity in the President’s tour of the region, where he is expected to launch and assess several development projects.

Earlier, President Ruto was at Hell's Gate in Naivasha for the WSR Safari Rally final day thriller.

The President landed in Naivasha on Sunday as the rally entered its concluding stages, drawing large crowds of motorsport fans and officials eager to follow the decisive moments of the competition.

Ruto was accompanied by Sports CS Salim Mvurya and his Tourism counterpart Rebecca Miano.

The Safari Rally, one of the most iconic events in the World Rally Championship calendar, has been taking place in and around Naivasha, attracting local and international competitors.

Sunday’s final stage is expected to determine the overall winner of the rally, with drivers battling challenging terrain and unpredictable weather conditions that have defined the competition throughout the weekend.

The President’s attendance underscores the government’s support for the global motorsport event, which continues to boost tourism and showcase Kenya’s scenic landscapes to an international audience.
