Expectations are high among residents of Western Kenya ahead of President William Ruto’s working tour of the region starting Monday.
Ruto is expected to inspect ongoing projects, commission others, and launch new ones during his week-long visit of the vote-rich region.
The President landed in Kakamega on Sunday, where he held a leaders’ meeting before starting his work with the handing over of the Milimani affordable housing units, commissioning Malava-Shitoli water projects, and launching construction of Malaha market in Navakholo on Monday.
He will also commission rural electricity connectivity in Lurambi constituency on Monday.
On Tuesday, the President will open Huduma Centre at Kimilili, visit Lugulu Girls High School, and inspect Sokokubwa market before commissioning Bukembe market in Bungoma county.
On Wednesday, the President will lay a foundation stone on the Khwisero Economic Stimulus Market project, visit the affordable housing site in Khwisero town, and launch electricity connectivity.
“Residents are in high spirits and ready receive the president because he stated a Level 4 hospital here in Khwisero which is ongoing,” said area MP Christopher Aseka.
Aseka said residents of Western will fully support President Ruto’s re-election because of the development his government is implementing in Western.
He said residents have never witnessed such development under the Kenya Kwanza administration since independence.
On Thursday, the President will tour Busia county where he will lay a foundation stone on the Sh133 million, 340-bed students hostel at the Kenya Medical Training College Teso campus before inspecting progress on Ang’urai market. He will also commission the Amagoro modern market.
The highlight of the President’s visit in the county will be the official launch of the last-mile connectivity of the Malakisi water project that is expected to significantly improve access to clean water for thousands of households in the constituency.
Local leaders have welcomed the planned visit, saying the projects will stimulate economic activity, improve health training facilities, and address long-standing water shortages affecting residents in the constituency.
Teso North MP Oku Kaunya said the high-profile visit is expected to accelerate development in the region through the launch and inspection of key infrastructure, education, and water projects worth millions of shillings.
The President will wind up his visit in Vihiga County, where he will launch the upgrading of the Kidundu stadium on Friday.
Observers say the President’s tour of Western is meant to check the influence of the Linda Wananchi faction of ODM led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and his brigade
