Police officers in Trans Nzoia County have arrested three suspects linked to a violent robbery that occurred early Saturday morning at the busy Kitale Bus Park area.

According to police, the incident was reported by the victim, who told officers that at about 5 am, he was confronted by three men riding a red TVS motorcycle.

The suspects, armed with knives and pangas, attacked him and robbed him of several valuables before fleeing the scene.

Among the items stolen during the robbery were a Tecno Camon 40 mobile phone, a laptop, spanners and a car control computer, all of which had been packed in a black bag. During the brief but terrifying encounter, the victim sustained minor injuries to his face and hands.

Police said officers from National Police Service based at Kitale Police Station responded swiftly after receiving the report and immediately launched a search operation to track down the suspects.

“Acting swiftly, officers from Kitale Police Station launched an immediate response and intercepted the motorcycle at the Laini Moja area,” police said in a statement.

The motorcycle rider was arrested during the operation. Investigators said the suspect later led officers to his accomplices following an interrogation.

“Upon interrogation, the suspect led officers to the Mitume area, where his accomplices were found asleep in a mud house, unaware that the law had already closed in around them,” police said.

The two accomplices, were immediately arrested by the officers.

A search conducted inside the house led to the recovery of a black bag containing the stolen Tecno Camon 40 mobile phone, spanners and a penknife. The recovered items were later positively identified by the victim as the property stolen during the robbery.

Police confirmed that the victim was rushed to Kijana Wamalwa Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment following the attack.

“The victim was treated and later discharged in stable condition,” police said.

The three suspects are currently being held in police custody as detectives finalize investigations before presenting them in court to face charges of robbery with violence.

Authorities say the arrests highlight the continued efforts by security agencies to crack down on violent crime and protect members of the public.

In a separate but related development, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) recently arrested two suspects in connection with a black-market network dealing in stolen mobile phones in the Githogoro area of Runda.

According to the DCI, the suspects were apprehended during a late-night intelligence-led operation conducted on Thursday.

“The late-night operation followed credible and actionable intelligence received by detectives concerning a disreputable syndicate involved in receiving and trading stolen mobile devices,” the DCI said in a statement.

The operation involved detectives from the DCI Operations Action Team working alongside officers from DCI Gigiri and police from Runda Police Station.
