Speaking during the burial ceremony of the late Lt. (Rtd.) George Were in Nyakach, Kisumu County, the PS emphasised that political competition should never be allowed to degenerate into violence, destruction of property, or loss of life.
“The President has been very clear from the first day that under his leadership, violence and chaos will not become the currency of our politics,” Omollo said, calling on the youth to play a constructive role in safeguarding peace and stability across the country.
He warned that some political actors often exploit young people to perpetrate violence during political contests, urging them to remain vigilant and refuse to be used as tools for conflict.
According to the PS, the government remains committed to ensuring that democratic freedoms are exercised within the law.
While addressing mourners, Omollo also commended leaders and communities in Nyakach and the neighbouring Kericho region for making significant progress in restoring peace in an area that has historically experienced inter-community security challenges.
The PS noted that the region had previously witnessed incidents of cattle rustling, destruction of property, and loss of lives, but recent collaborative efforts between leaders and security agencies have helped ease tensions.
He specifically acknowledged the role played by the local leaders from both Kisumu and Kericho counties for working together with security agencies to foster dialogue and peaceful coexistence between the communities.
Omollo said continuous engagement between community leaders, security officers, and local administrators has been instrumental in restoring calm in the region.
“Peace is not something we achieve once and forget. It is something we must protect every day through dialogue, cooperation, and responsible leadership,” he said.
Turning to security matters, the Principal Secretary assured Kenyans that the government will take firm action against individuals involved in criminal activities, regardless of their social or political status.
He referenced a recent incident in Migori County, describing it as unfortunate and confirming that security agencies had already launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the event.
“We had a very unfortunate incident in Migori County yesterday. Our security officers are already handling the matter and the instructions are very clear: anyone involved in any form of criminality must face the full force of the law,” Omollo said.
He further warned that the government will not tolerate acts of violence or individuals taking the law into their own hands.
“It does not matter whether you are an elected leader, an aspiring leader, a businessman, or an ordinary citizen. The rule of law must prevail, and no one will be allowed to take the law into their own hands,” he added.
Omollo concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and strengthening coordination between security agencies and local communities.
He urged leaders across the country to emulate the example set by Nyakach and Kericho, where cooperation between communities and security agencies has demonstrated that lasting peace can be achieved when all stakeholders work together.
