President William Ruto at Kapsabet Girls High School/PCSStudents of Kapsabet Girls High School were thrown into excitement after President William Ruto donated Sh1 million to the institution to buy bread during his visit to the school in Nandi County.
The President, who was touring development projects in the region, made the pledge after a student leader addressed him and made a humble request on behalf of the learners.
While speaking during the event, the student representative asked the Head of State to support the school but deliberately avoided making a specific request, saying the students had many needs but would appreciate any assistance.
“We were just requesting that whatever it is, we will appreciate,” the student said. “I do not want to be specific on what we want because the desires are too many. But we believe you are a person who is going to be with us.”
Her remarks drew admiration from the President, who commended the student for her confidence and leadership while addressing the gathering.
“You said you are the one and I have confirmed you are indeed the one,” President Ruto said, referring to the student leader who had described herself as the “small head girl of a great institution.”
“You have spoken on behalf of the 1,600 girls in this school. I will give you and your teacher Sh1 million for bread,” he announced.
The announcement was immediately met with loud cheers and celebration from the students and teachers who had gathered in the school hall. Many students erupted in jubilation as the President concluded his remarks, excited by the unexpected donation.
Ruto also took the opportunity to encourage the students to focus on their education and remain disciplined as they pursue their academic goals.
During the same visit to Nandi County, the President also delivered a new school bus to St Joseph’s Chepterit Girls High School located in Mosop Constituency.
The bus is expected to help ease transport challenges faced by the school, particularly during academic trips, co-curricular activities and other institutional functions.
Local leaders who attended the event welcomed the President’s support to schools in the region, noting that such assistance helps improve learning conditions for students.
The visit formed part of President Ruto’s wider development tour in the North Rift region, where he has been inspecting projects and engaging residents on government programmes aimed at improving education, infrastructure and economic opportunities.
For the students of Kapsabet Girls, however, the highlight of the day remained the President’s pledge, which they said would go a long way in improving their welfare, and ensuring plenty of bread in the school dining hall.
