The Technical University of Kenya has announced a vacancy for the position of chief internal auditor as the institution seeks to strengthen its operations.

In a public notice, the university invited applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the senior leadership role within its Internal Audit Directorate.

The position falls under Grade XV of the Public Service Commission grading system (Grade 4) and is offered on a renewable contract basis, subject to satisfactory performance.

According to the advert, the Chief Internal Auditor will provide independent and objective assurance on the effectiveness of the university’s governance, risk management and internal control systems.

The role will involve overseeing the development and implementation of internal audit policies, reviewing financial and operational systems and advising management and the Audit and Risk Committee on emerging risks and compliance matters.

The successful candidate will report functionally to the University Council through the Audit and Risk Committee, while administratively reporting to the Vice-Chancellor.

Among the key responsibilities outlined include reviewing internal policies, assessing governance structures, evaluating risk management processes and coordinating both internal and external audit recommendations.

The role will also involve strengthening quality assurance systems within the audit department and ensuring compliance with international professional practices for internal auditing.

TUK indicated that applicants must possess a Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognised institution. In addition, candidates must have at least 15 years of cumulative audit experience, with significant exposure in senior audit leadership roles within public or comparable institutions.

Professional certification is also mandatory, with applicants required to hold credentials such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Membership in a recognised professional body with a valid practicing certificate is also required.

The university further stated that applicants should have demonstrated expertise in risk-based auditing, ICT and systems auditing, public sector governance frameworks and enterprise risk management.

Strong leadership skills, analytical capacity, high ethical standards, and proficiency in computer applications are also listed among the key qualifications.

An earned PhD in a relevant field will be considered an added advantage.

Successful candidates will also be required to meet the Chapter Six requirements of the Constitution, including clearance certificates from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Higher Education Loans Board (Helb), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and a recognised Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

The position offers a salary scale ranging from Sh 224,631 to Sh 345,816 per month, alongside a house allowance of Sh 73,715, with other benefits as approved by the university council.

Interested candidates have been asked to submit a detailed curriculum vitae, certified copies of academic and professional certificates, identification documents, Chapter Six clearance certificates and contacts of at least three professional referees.
