
Kenya’s manufacturing sector remains heavily concentrated in a few counties, with Nairobi City leading by a wide margin.
According to the Kenya Association of Manufacturers Regulatory Audit Report 2025, Nairobi contributes a 5-year average of 36.9% to the country’s manufacturing Gross Value Added (GVA), highlighting its dominance as the country’s industrial hub.
Mombasa follows with 9.9%, benefiting from its strategic port and logistics infrastructure. Kiambu (8.4%) and Machakos (7.8%) also play significant roles due to their proximity to Nairobi and growing industrial parks.
Other counties contributing to the sector include Kilifi (4.6%), Nakuru (3.9%), and Kisumu (3.5%).
Meru and Kakamega each account for 1.9%, while Kericho contributes 1.6%, reflecting the gradual spread of manufacturing activities beyond traditional urban centers.
