The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has received unqualified audit opinions for three consecutive financial years from the Office of the Auditor-General, signalling improved financial management and compliance with public finance regulations.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omolo said the clean audit record reflects stronger financial controls and adherence to government financial reporting standards within the department.
An unqualified audit opinion means the financial statements submitted to the Auditor-General were found to be accurate and compliant with the relevant financial regulations.
According to the statement, the outcome represents a significant improvement compared to previous audit cycles when the department faced unresolved audit queries and compliance gaps.
“The financial statements presented to the Auditor-General by the State Department were found to be true and in full compliance with the relevant financial regulations,” the statement said.
The department attributed the improved performance to strengthened financial controls, improved compliance with the Public Finance Management framework, and timely resolution of audit issues raised in previous financial reviews.
Officials said the progress demonstrates efforts within the department to tighten accountability mechanisms and ensure prudent use of public resources.
The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration is responsible for coordinating government administrative functions across the country, including oversight of national government administration at the regional and county levels.
Its functions also support internal security coordination and delivery of government services through national government administrators.
The clean audit record aligns with ongoing reforms within the public service aimed at strengthening financial discipline and improving transparency in government institutions.
The achievement also supports the government’s Zero-Fault Audit Campaign, an initiative spearheaded by the Office of the Head of Public Service.
The campaign encourages public institutions to eliminate audit queries by strengthening compliance with financial regulations and improving accountability in the management of public funds.
The campaign forms part of broader public service reforms under the administration of William Ruto, which seek to enhance efficiency, transparency, and responsible management of public resources across government agencies.
Public sector institutions are regularly audited by the Auditor-General to ensure that public funds are used lawfully and that financial records accurately reflect government expenditure.
Officials said maintaining consistent, clean audit reports remains a priority for the State Department as it continues implementing financial management reforms and strengthening internal accountability systems.
