In a public notice issued on Friday, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority said the disruption is due to the ongoing construction of a flyover near The Junction Mall.

The notice said a section of the busy road near the Naivasha Road and Kingara Road junctions will be partially closed at night from Monday, March 9, to Monday, March 23, 2026.

The authority added that the disruption will mainly occur between 6 pm and 2 am to facilitate ongoing construction work.

“Traffic that is Karen-bound along Ngong Road will be diverted from the Kenya Science Campus entrance to the Nairobi City County Training School entrance due to the temporary closure of that section,” the authority said in the notice.

As a result of the diversion, motorists should expect fewer lanes available during nighttime operations.

KURA said only a single lane will be maintained in each direction along the affected stretch while works are ongoing.

The arrangement is expected to help contractors safely advance the critical stage of the project while still allowing vehicles to move along the corridor.

However, the authority noted that traffic flow during daytime hours is expected to remain largely normal.

“No full road closures or major traffic diversions are anticipated during the day as two lanes will be maintained in each direction,” KURA said.

Ngong Road is one of the major transport corridors in Nairobi, connecting the city centre with several residential and commercial areas, including Kilimani, Adams Arcade, Dagoretti Corner and Karen.

The section near Junction Mall is particularly busy, serving motorists, public service vehicles and pedestrians accessing the surrounding neighbourhoods and shopping centres.

KURA urged motorists approaching the affected section to exercise caution and follow traffic signage that will be installed along the diversion routes.

Police officers and traffic marshals will also be deployed to guide motorists, pedestrians, buses and motorcycles through the area during the construction period.

The authority apologised to the public for the inconvenience that may arise during the works but said the measures are necessary to support completion of the project.

Once complete, the flyover is expected to improve traffic flow at the junction, which has long been identified as a congestion hotspot along Ngong Road.

The project forms part of ongoing efforts by KURA to upgrade urban road infrastructure and ease mobility within Nairobi and other urban centres.
