According to footage captured near the East Africa College of Tourism and Hospitality Management, two vehicles appeared to have been swept away by floodwaters during the heavy rains.

One car was seen completely overturned, resting upside down, while the other lay on its side.

Debris from the vehicles and surrounding areas was scattered across the road, creating a hazardous environment for motorists and pedestrians alike.

The videos also showed other vehicles affected by the rains.

Several cars were parked haphazardly, apparently displaced by the floodwaters, with some partially in contact with others.

One vehicle was seen lodged in a drainage channel, highlighting the strength of the water flow.

Muddy road surfaces and scattered debris added to the chaos.

Multiple vehicles along the road sustained varying degrees of damage.

Some appeared to have collided while being carried away by the water, while others were displaced from their original parking spots.

The aftermath, as seen in the videos, painted a picture of destruction, with vehicles overturned, debris-laden streets, and motorists unable to move their cars safely.

The heavy rains in Nairobi have been part of a series of downpours affecting the capital in recent days.

Authorities have previously warned residents and motorists to exercise caution, avoid flooded roads, and follow guidance from traffic marshals and police officers.

Despite these warnings, low-lying areas and poorly drained sections of major roads remain highly vulnerable during intense rainfall, as evidenced by the incidents along Maai Mahiu Road.

As a result of the rains, at least ten people have died.

According to the police, eight people died in the floods: six were swept away by the water, including two who were electrocuted, and two others died in their vehicles.

Nairobi police boss George Seda said search and rescue operations were ongoing on Saturday.

“The teams are out there for a search and rescue mission. Most roads and estates were flooded, making it impossible for the rescue mission last night,” he said.

He added that more than 100 vehicles were damaged, including over 50 in South C alone.

“Others were overturned on the roadside and parking bays,” Seda said.

The heavy rains caused traffic chaos across the city for hours.

The government has activated emergency response measures after the Kenya Meteorological Department warned that heavy rainfall will continue in many parts of the country, raising the risk of flooding, displacement, and transport disruption.
