The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has convened a Special Delegates Convention scheduled for March 27, 2026, in Nairobi, bringing together key party officials and representatives from across the country amid growing internal divisions within the party.

In a notice, ODM said the meeting will be held in Nairobi County starting at 9:00 a.m. and will bring together members of the party’s top leadership organs, including the National Executive Committee, the Parliamentary Group and representatives from the party’s leagues and county structures.

The convention will also include chairpersons of the Branch Executive Committees, members of the Council of Governors, county assembly majority and minority leaders, as well as national officials from the ODM Youth League, Women League and Disability League.

According to the notice issued, the meeting is convened under the provisions of the ODM Party Constitution.

“A Special Delegates Convention shall be held on Friday, 27th March 2026 in Nairobi County commencing at 9:00 a.m. pursuant to Articles 47 and 49 as read together with Articles 51(3)(d) and 21(1)(i) of the Orange Democratic Movement Party Constitution,” ODM stated in the notice.

The party said the convention will deliberate on several matters affecting its leadership and governance structures.

Among the agenda items listed for discussion are the ratification of a resolution by the National Governing Council on party leadership and consideration of a National Executive Committee resolution touching on Article 87 of the party constitution.

“The agenda of the day shall include ratification of the National Governing Council resolution on party leadership and taking note of the National Executive Committee resolution on Article 87 of the party constitution,” ODM stated.

The convention will also feature adoption of the agenda, speeches from party officials and an address by the party leader.

The announcement comes at a time when the party is experiencing heightened political activity linked to internal restructuring and leadership changes.

Recently, delegates’ elections for the party in Kisumu County were postponed following a directive issued by party leader Oburu Oginga.

In a letter dated March 6, 2026, addressed to the chairperson of the ODM Party National Elections Coordination Committee, Oburu directed that the polls scheduled for the following day be cancelled due to concerns over the prevailing political environment.

The elections had been planned as part of ODM’s efforts to reorganise its grassroots leadership structures and prepare the party for upcoming political activities.

Earlier this month, the ODM Parliamentary Group also endorsed several decisions, including the installation of Oburu Oginga as party leader and plans to pursue negotiations with the United Democratic Alliance ahead of the 2027 General Election.
