The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cautioned the public against fraudulent job advertisements circulating on social media.

In an official statement shared on its verified platforms on Friday, the commission clarified that several recent posts claiming to offer official employment opportunities are fake.

IEBC emphasised that the only authentic source for IEBC employment information is its official jobs portal.

“Fake Jobs Alert! Beware of fraudulent job advertisements on social media. The IEBC official jobs portal is https://jobs.iebc.or.ke,” IEBC said in their posting.

“For accurate and up-to-date information, please visit our official website (https://iebc.or.ke) and our verified social media platforms.”

It urged Kenyans to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of recruitment information before engaging.

The alert comes in response to several separate reports that claimed to advertise IEBC job opportunities in preparation for the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Each of these posts included links and instructions that suggested they were official, a claim the commission has since dismissed.

One of the reports declared that a recruitment process had been launched to fill several positions, with shortlisted candidates supposedly to be notified via email.

The post even included a link purportedly directing applicants to the official portal.

Another report presented itself as a public notice of recruitment for vacant positions and similarly provided an application link.

A third example depicted a portal interface with the message, “submit your application now,” inviting applicants to provide personal details, including full names and nationality, for public recruitment of polling personnel and assistants.

IEBC has stamped all such reports as fake, warning that they are not connected to any genuine commission process.

The commission’s clarification is timely, given the increase in fraudulent schemes targeting job seekers online.

The notice comes days after IEBC opened applications for 12,520 temporary jobs to support a 30-day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) drive at ward level.

The exercise aimed to boost voter numbers across Kenya ahead of future elections was announced through vacancies on February 25, 2026, via its official X account.

“We’re hiring! The Commission invites qualified applicants to apply for temporary positions to support the thirty (30) day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise at the ward level,” the post read.

It listed three roles, including voter registration assistants, voter registration clerks, and ICT clerks.

“Youths are strongly encouraged to apply,” the post stated.

Voter registration clerks make up the largest group, followed by voter registration assistants and then the ICT clerks. Successful applicants are expected to work during the intensive ward-based registration period.
