Kenyan comedian Stella Bunei, popularly known as Jemutai, has launched a scathing response to her former partner and fellow comedian, Herman Kago, alias Professor Hamo.

In a series of videos posted to her Instagram account, Jemutai addressed recent remarks where Hamo reportedly referred to their two children as a ‘mistake’.

The public exchange marks a significant flare-up in a relationship that has been under the spotlight for years. Jemutai, who describes herself as a very peaceful person who usually stays in her own lane, stated that she felt compelled to speak out to protect her children from what she described as an unhealthy situation.

A History of Public Friction

The two comedians first became the subject of intense public debate in 2021. According to Jemutai, that period was a turning point for their private lives, which played out across social media platforms.

Now, five years after they first trended, the mother of two says the current narrative being pushed is not fair to the family.

"As a mom, it reaches a point to protect your children because this is not healthy. This is not fair at all."

Addressing the Victim Narrative

In her latest videos, Jemutai pushed back against the idea that Hamo’s career struggles are tied to their past affair. She challenged the notion that he is a victim of his personal history, instead pointing to a lack of professional consistency.

“Dear Herman Kago, stop playing the victim, the reason we went viral is because of the children. It has never been about us. Either we planned or not, the kids are here and they depend on us,” Jemutai stated.

“Now, imagine as a dad you are jumping from one podcast to the other, what are you discussing? What fame are you looking for that you don’t have?” she added.

Jemutai noted that Hamo is eight years older than her and should be more focused on his output. She acknowledged his natural abilities, describing him as a very good stand-up comedian and a musician with significant talent. However, she questioned his work ethic over the last few years.

Questions Over Professional Consistency

The comedian did not hold back when discussing Hamo's financial standing and brand presence. She asked him directly how many stand-up comedy specials he had produced since 2020 and how often he posts content for his audience.

"I’m going to tell you why you’re not making money," Jemutai said in one of the clips. She suggested that his lack of income was not due to the scandals of the past, but because he has remained "stuck" while the industry moved forward.

She encouraged him to look at how brands view him as an influencer and whether he is being consistent enough to attract partnerships.

"The reason you're not making money is not because you cheated with Jemutai... It's because you're still stuck on Churchill Show’s fame.”

Protecting the Children

Despite the professional critiques, the core of Jemutai’s message remained focused on her children. While Hamo has previously acknowledged her as the mother of his children in casual settings, Jemutai’s recent reaction suggests a deep-seated frustration with how he views their shared history.

She concluded by reiterating that her silence was broken only because the current situation had become "not fair at all" for the children involved.

The comedian has made it clear that while she prefers a quiet life, she will not hesitate to voice her concerns when her family is affected.
