Traffic cases filed in courts in FY 2024/25/ROSA MUMANYI

A total of 62,932 traffic cases were filed in Kenyan courts during the 2024/25 financial year, according to a report by the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) launched on March 2, 2026.

The majority of the cases fell under “other offences”, which accounted for 47,400 filings. Obstruction of traffic followed with 6,917 cases, while insurance violations stood at 3,509.

Driving under the influence (DUI) resulted in 2,991 cases being taken to court. Fatal traffic offences accounted for 787 cases, while 704 cases involved careless driving.

Speeding violations were recorded at 556, and county traffic rule violations were the least reported at 68 cases.

The figures highlight the scale and diversity of traffic-related offences handled by courts across the country.

They also point to the continued burden road safety violations place on the justice system, with thousands of motorists facing prosecution over breaches ranging from minor infractions to serious and fatal offences.
