Kenya Police FC boosted their FKF Premier League title defence hopes with a commanding 2–0 victory over Bandari FC at Police Sacco Stadium on Sunday.
The result highlighted the champions’ discipline, cohesion and attacking efficiency, moving them up to fourth place on the log with 37 points, while Bandari remained seventh with 32.
Police asserted their authority from the opening whistle, controlling possession and pressing high to unsettle Bandari’s back line. The breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Yves Koutiama capitalised on a defensive lapse to slot the ball past the goalkeeper. The early goal energised the home crowd and set the tone for the rest of the match.
The game was effectively sealed in the 76th minute when Jacques Bowamba punished a tiring Bandari defence, doubling the lead with a composed finish that reflected Police’s growing confidence.
After the match, head coach Nicholas Muyoti gave an in-depth assessment of his side’s performance.
“We approached the game with intensity and controlled most of the match,” he said. “Our players showed discipline and tactical awareness, which is exactly what we need at this stage of the season.”
Muyoti added: “Yves and Jacques were outstanding today. Their movement and finishing give us the cutting edge we need in tight matches.”
He stressed the importance of defensive solidity.
“Keeping a clean sheet is as important as scoring goals. Our defenders were focused and organised from the first minute,” he said.
On the team’s adaptation, Muyoti noted: “The players are understanding our system better each week. Their transitions from defence to attack are improving, and that is crucial for our title push.”
He reflected on the league’s competitive nature.
“Every match now is like a final. We cannot afford to relax. Teams like Bandari are dangerous if given even a small chance,” he said. “We need belief as much as ability. Winning convincingly today boosts confidence ahead of the next fixtures,” he said.
On tactical execution, he added: “We implemented our pressing strategy very well. The midfield controlled the tempo and allowed our forwards to exploit gaps in their defence.”
Finally, he spoke about consistency.
“This performance shows the team can combine discipline and creativity. That balance is key if we are to challenge for the title until the very end,” he said.
Bandari coach Bernard Mwalala also gave a detailed assessment of his side’s struggles.
“We started well, but we were too slow in transition,” he said. “Police punished us for the slightest lapse and that cost us dearly.”
Mwalala continued: “Our midfield lacked creativity today. We couldn’t link up play or create clear chances.”
Reflecting on defensive errors, he said: “Small mistakes are magnified against teams like Police. We need to tighten up immediately.”
On the team’s mentality, he observed: “The players were eager, but the urgency led to rushed decisions in key moments. That’s something we must correct.”
He also noted: “Our attacking movement was predictable. We need more variation and better coordination if we are to challenge the upper half of the table.”
Discussing lessons for upcoming matches, Mwalala said: “We cannot dwell on one result. The league is long and we must regroup, analyse and improve quickly.”
On the broader campaign, he added: “Since I arrived, the goal has been to build a team that can compete consistently for top positions, not rely on luck. Matches like today remind us of the standards required.”
He concluded: “Despite the loss, I am confident in this squad. We have the talent; now we need cohesion, focus and sharper decision-making in the final third.”
Meanwhile, in Murang’a, Murang’a SEAL maintained their strong home form at SportPesa Arena with a narrow 1–0 win over Posta Rangers.
The hosts executed a disciplined game plan, sitting deep and exploiting counterattacks to score the decisive goal. The victory was SEAL’s third in five matches, lifting them to sixth place with 33 points, while Posta Rangers remain winless in their last five outings.
