Priscilla wa Imani is a household name on TikTok. Thousands of followers know her for her signature whistling and viral content.
However, the content creator has revealed a hidden chapter of her life that predates her internet fame.
In an exclusive phone interview with journalist Moses Sagwe of Mpasho, Wa Imani shared details of her long-standing music career. Her journey into the world of gospel music did not start recently. It began over a decade ago, in 2012.

A Recording Artist in Kampala
Wa Imani’s musical roots run deep. To record her first major project, she travelled to Kampala, Uganda. She worked with a well-known producer named Badman.
During that period, she produced a full album. The project consists of six songs. While many fans are just discovering her voice now, she has been a member of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya for years.
"Before I started whistling, I was a singer. I am a singer. I started music in 2012, I did Kikuyu songs before going to Uganda where I did a full album consisting of 6 songs,” Wa Imani revealed.
Recently, a gospel video of Wa Imani began circulating online. Many fans assumed it was a new release. She clarified that the song was actually recorded in 2016, and it was part of album.
A Talent Rooted in Family
The singer explains that her musical talent is a family trait. While she is famous for whistling, she views herself as a multi-talented artist. Beyond gospel, she even recorded a song called "Azimio la Umoja" during the last election cycle.

She prefers to sing in her mother tongue, Kikuyu. She believes this language allows her to express her faith and message more effectively than Swahili.

“I’d like to continue doing music in Kikuyu, my mother tongue. That’s what ci prefer,” she affirmed.
Social Media Fatigue
Despite her massive success on platforms like TikTok, Wa Imani admits the pressure is high. She revealed that her children were the ones who originally encouraged her to join the internet.
Surprisingly, she expressed a desire to leave social media in the near future. She cites extreme exhaustion as the primary reason for wanting to step away.
"I would really like to leave the internet soon. I get very tired."
A Multi-Faceted Creator
The "Whistling Queen" is a woman of many hats. When she is not recording music or creating content, she is an actress and a handcraft artist. She spends much of her free time sewing.
She acknowledges that her diverse talents can be difficult for the public to track. However, she remains focused on using her gifts to support herself and her community. For Wa Imani, the music came first, and it remains a core part of who she is.
