The Kenya Airports Authority has announced an exciting career opportunity for a Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer as it seeks to strengthen leadership at the helm of the organisation.

In a job advertisement, KAA said it is inviting applications from results-oriented, visionary and transformational leaders to drive the organisation in delivering its mandate. The position is graded at S10 and referenced as MD/CEO/01/FEBRUARY/2026.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer will serve as the Accounting Officer and report to the Chairperson of the Board of Directors.

The role involves responsibility to the Board for the day-to-day management and coordination of activities in the Authority.

The successful candidate will be tasked with defining and executing strategy, generating revenue, engaging customers and stakeholders, managing risk and ensuring compliance, driving performance and growing talent.

The employment terms indicate a three-year contract, renewable once, subject to satisfactory performance or attainment of mandatory retirement age, whichever comes earlier.

Among the key duties outlined are providing overall strategic leadership in line with market and industry changes and, through the senior management team, delivering the strategic intent and overseeing the day-to-day running of the Authority.

The CEO will also engage with key stakeholders in the development and delivery of strategic customer, government and sector-wide aviation initiatives.

Other responsibilities include presenting strategy, long-term capital investment plans, annual budgets and procurement plans to the Board for deliberation and approval.

The office holder will be required to provide sufficient, accurate and timely information on the Authority’s operations, financial status and overall performance to enable the Board fulfil its governance objectives.

KAA further stated that the Managing Director will be responsible for driving maximum utilisation and productivity from all Authority’s assets, and ensuring a positive return on capital investment and operating expenditure.

The role also entails enhancing the balance between aeronautical and non-aeronautical revenues, ensuring adequate systems of accountability, risk management and internal control, and guaranteeing adherence to legal, statutory and regulatory guidelines.

The Authority is seeking candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Finance, Economics, Business Management, Marketing, Statistics, Engineering or Social Sciences from a recognised institution.

A Master’s degree is mandatory, while certification in Aviation will be an added advantage.

Applicants must have at least ten years’ working experience, five of which should be in a senior management or leadership position with direct responsibility for strategic planning, revenue generation and management of significant capital and operational budgets.

A leadership course lasting not less than four weeks is also required.

Interested candidates must submit an application letter accompanied by a detailed CV, copies of academic and professional certificates, National ID and referee contacts. Applications should be sent electronically to [email protected] or delivered in hard copy to the Chairman, Board of Directors, Kenya Airports Authority, KAA Head Office, Airport North Road, Nairobi.

Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit clearance certificates in line with Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

These include a Police Clearance Certificate from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, a Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board, a Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority, clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, and a report from an approved Credit Reference Bureau.

KAA stated that the clearance certificates should be valid and current.

The Authority further noted that the self-declaration form from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission should indicate the respective position that is being applied for.

The Authority emphasised that only shortlisted and successful candidates will be contacted. Shortlisted applicants will also be required to present original documents during the interview, including the National Identity Card, as well as academic and professional certificates.

To be considered, applications must be received by March 9, 2026, at 5.00 pm East African Time.
