Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris has declared that she will contest for the Makadara Member of Parliament seat in the 2027 General Election, formally signalling her shift from county representation to constituency politics.

Speaking on Monday on a morning show on Radio47, Passaris said she had settled on Makadara after weighing her options and consulting party colleagues.

“I have decided to vie for the Makadara seat because I believe I can make a meaningful contribution to development in that constituency,” she said.

Passaris revealed that she had initially considered Westlands and Makadara constituencies but opted for the latter after Makadara Member of Parliament (MP) George Aladwa indicated he would be vying for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

“Both Westlands and Makadara presented opportunities. Aladwa had initially planned to go to Vihiga, but later reconsidered. When I sought clarification, he told me he would instead be running for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat,” Passaris explained.

Her announcement comes months after she publicly stated on November 22, 2025, that she would not seek re-election as Nairobi Woman Representative, an affirmative action seat reserved for women.

At the time, Passaris moved to quell online speculation about her political future, dismissing edited posters circulating on social media that claimed she had endorsed a successor.

“By 2027, God willing, I will have completed two full terms as Nairobi Woman Rep. This is an affirmative action seat, and I believe it is time for another woman to lead,” she said then, adding that she had not endorsed anyone and would not be drawn into premature political alignments.

She emphasised that it would be improper to be pushed into premature political alignments, adding that any eventual decisions would be guided by the Orange Democratic Movement, where she serves in a leadership role.

In the same November statement, Passaris declared her personal support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, praising his leadership and development agenda, even as she maintained that her immediate focus remains service delivery in Nairobi.

Her latest declaration, however, firmly places her in the race for Makadara as political realignments begin to take shape ahead of the next polls.
