Gor Mahia forward Shariff Musa has called on fans to rally behind the team.
“We want the fans to show up in large numbers because their energy pushes us,” Musa said. “When Nyayo is full and roaring, it becomes very difficult for any opponent because you feel like you are carrying an extra player. Every match feels like a final at this stage.”
At the heart of Gor’s charge is goalkeeper Byrne Omondi, whose calm presence anchors the defence.
“We respect KCB because they are a very disciplined side,” Omondi said. “They have shown they can surprise big teams this season, especially when you underestimate them or lose concentration. We cannot focus on the table too much… Sunday is about KCB, nothing else. Clean sheets win titles. If we control our area and stay organised, we control the game.”
KCB, seventh on 29 points, arrive with a mixture of resilience and tactical discipline under Robert Matano, a coach who knows Gor Mahia intimately. Captain Humphrey Mieno remains confident.
“We know Gor Mahia are top for a reason. They are consistent and dangerous, especially when they gain momentum early,” Mieno said.
“However, we are determined to win. Pressure is on them, not us. They are chasing the title, and the fans expect them to win comfortably. That expectation can create tension if things don’t go their way.”
The bankers have leveraged their unpredictability this season to take points off strong teams, a factor they hope will unsettle Gor Mahia.
“Our coach understands Gor Mahia very well,” Mieno added. “We have worked on specific areas — both how to exploit space and how to contain their key players. Discipline is key; one lapse can punish you immediately.”
Sunday’s match promises a high-stakes battle between the league leaders seeking to maintain momentum and a resilient KCB side looking to upset the title race. For Gor Mahia, the combination of fan support, defensive discipline, and attacking sharpness could prove decisive.
For KCB, confidence, organisation, and tactical cunning will be vital if they are to spring a surprise at Nyayo.
