Former Chief Justice David Maraga/FILEFormer Chief Justice David Maraga has declared he is open to working with opposition leaders ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
He noted that in the case of any partnership, it would be anchored on the fight against corruption and respect for the rule of law.
Maraga, who is seeking the presidency, spoke in Embu during a tour of several counties where he has been urging residents to register as voters.
“I believe there will come a time when we will work together and I am ready to collaborate with opposition candidates who are firm in the fight against corruption,” Maraga said.
He also added that he was willing to collaborate with leaders committed to upholding the law.
“I am happy to work with anyone who shares that commitment to fighting corruption and upholding the rule of law,” he said.
Maraga further emphasised that his leadership would be grounded in personal accountability and adherence to the Constitution.
“My leadership will be anchored on obedience to the law. I will be the first to uphold and abide by it,” he said.
“No one is above the law. Anyone who commits an offence must be held accountable. Corruption is what is undermining this country.”
Maraga has in recent months intensified his countrywide engagements as he positions himself as a reform-focused presidential contender, centring his campaign on institutional accountability.
Maraga had earlier called on lawyers to choose firm and courageous leadership aheads to the polls to elect its new president in the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
“Dear colleagues and learned friends, we have elections for our president tomorrow. As we think about the election of our president, I want you to bear in mind the role of the Law Society in this country,” Maraga said.
Maraga has consistently warned that without resolute leadership in key institutions such as the LSK, the country risks weakening constitutionalism and protection of fundamental rights, especially now that the country is headed into the 2027 general election.
