There’s something magical about leaving the hum of Nairobi behind and driving into the lush, rolling greens of Tigoni. The air shifts and softens at the same time. This past Saturday, it carried something even sweeter — love, nostalgia, and unmistakable R&B soul.

I made the journey from Nairobi to Tigoni for the Valentine’s Day edition of Rhythm & Brunch, and what unfolded at Naishola Gardens was nothing short of epic.

A Tequila Sunset Affair

Hundreds of partygoers arrived dressed in vibrant ‘Tequila Sunset’ attire — a striking palette of burnt orange, soft pinks, gold accents, and flowing silhouettes. Against the manicured lawns and serene backdrop of Tigoni’s tea country, the aesthetic alone felt cinematic.

But Rhythm & Brunch has never been just about the visuals. It’s about curating an atmosphere. And this Valentine’s edition mastered the balance between luxury picnic, elegance, and full-blown live concert energy.

Love was in the air — quite literally. Couples swayed together and friends toasted with sparkling glasses. Strangers bonded over shared lyrics from songs that shaped a generation.

Sol and The Gang: A Masterclass in Live R&B

The headline act, Sol and The Gang, transformed the gardens into a soulful sanctuary.

Known globally for their viral live renditions and collaborations with icons like Boyz II Men, Dua Lipa, and Nile Rodgers, the acclaimed UK showband delivered exactly what Kenya came for — and more.

Their high-energy performance of timeless 90s and early 2000s R&B, soul, and medley classics had the crowd in full voice. From the very first note, it was clear this wasn’t going to be a passive listening experience. This was a sing-along. A collective release. A shared memory in the making.

Every chorus felt louder than the last. Harmonies rolled across the lawns as if Tigoni itself had joined in. Couples clutched each other tighter as groups formed impromptu choirs.

It wasn’t just a performance — it was a dialogue between the band and the audience, and both sides were fully invested.

Kenya’s DJs Held the Pulse

Before and between the live set, Kenya’s premier DJs ensured the tempo never dipped. Nijo, Pinye, John Rabar, and Dream curated a seamless sonic journey that carried attendees from smooth daytime grooves into high-energy dance moments.

The transitions were effortless. Afrobeats flirted with old-school R&B, while soul melted into contemporary hits. The crowd responded in kind — dancing barefoot on grass, clinking glasses mid-chorus, and refusing to sit still for too long.

This synergy between international live talent and elite local DJs underscored a bigger truth: Kenya’s entertainment ecosystem is not only thriving — it’s evolving.

A Vision Bigger Than a Brunch

Beyond the music and aesthetics, Rhythm & Brunch is clearly building something strategic.

“This was the Valentine’s experience we envisioned, a beautiful, collective celebration brought to life by the amazing energy in the crowd,” said Matata, Co-founder of Rhythm & Brunch.

“We wanted to create something special with Sol and the Gang, and the response was incredible. We extend our deepest thanks to everyone who joined us. Your presence is what allows us to invest in this vision and to sustain the entire creative economy behind it, from the production crews and audio engineers to the local vendors who turn these ideas into reality. This success is our green light to scale bigger: more regions, more collaborations and positioning Kenya as Africa's premier hub for world-class music and lifestyle events.”

That statement landed differently as the sun dipped lower over Tigoni. Because what we witnessed wasn’t just a successful Valentine’s party — it was proof of concept.

The Rise of Premium Daytime Experiences

The success of this edition highlights Kenya's growing appetite for premium daytime lifestyle experiences that blend world-class music with genuine community vibes.

Rhythm & Brunch has tapped into something powerful: nostalgia-driven R&B, curated fashion themes, aspirational locations, and a demographic willing to invest in quality experiences.

By bridging top international talent with elite local DJs, the platform showcased both the strength and potential of Kenya's entertainment scene. It wasn’t about importing culture. It was about elevating and integrating it.

The Afterglow

As I drove back to Nairobi, replaying the harmonies in my head, one thought lingered: this is how memories are engineered.

Not by accident — but by intention.

With this Valentine’s milestone as its launchpad for the 2026 season, Rhythm & Brunch is clearly poised for expansion — reaching new regions, forging strategic partnerships, and solidifying its position as the force elevating Kenya to Africa's premier destination for world-class R&B and cultural day-parties.

And if Tigoni was anything to go by, the future sounds very, very good.
