Eric Omondi with Churchill during the 486 charity walk/HANDOUTComedian and activist Eric Omondi has reached Voi after covering more than 330 kilometres on his charity walk from Nairobi to Mombasa.
The journey, dubbed the “Walk of Love,” is part of a campaign to raise funds for a permanent Sisi Kwa Sisi Help and Rescue Centre, which will offer services including a clinic, emergency ambulances, a warehouse, and a free secondary school for vulnerable communities across Kenya.
Omondi set off from Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on February 10, 2026, aiming to walk the full 486 kilometres to Mombasa by Valentine’s Day.
Thousands of well-wishers, supporters, and Kenyan personalities gathered at the start to cheer him on, turning the launch into a high-energy send-off.
On the first day, Omondi covered roughly 63 kilometres but sustained injuries to his leg and hip, suffering torn ligaments as the physical strain took its toll.
Undeterred, he vowed to continue, declaring that nothing, not even severe discomfort, would force him to abandon the mission.
As the walk progressed through Machakos, Emali, and other towns, challenges arose.
The Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) advised against walking through certain sections of the route due to dangerous wildlife, including lions and elephants, which could pose serious risks to someone on foot.
Omondi subsequently revised his plans, announcing that he would cover approximately 370 kilometres on foot instead of the full distance originally planned.
Despite these obstacles, his determination remains steadfast. Supporters have continued to encourage him through social media livestreams and local rallies along Mombasa Road, with many donating via the Paybill number shared for the initiative and even “buying” symbolic kilometres to advance the cause.
With roughly 156 kilometres remaining and Voi now behind him, Omondi’s journey highlights resilience and collective goodwill, drawing national attention to the challenges faced by underserved communities and the impact of individual sacrifice for social good.
