What started as a digital feud between two entertainers has transformed into a major national event in Kenya. The boxing match between Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer, also known as Weka Mawe, is scheduled for 4 April 2026.
The bout has moved from social media banter to a high-stakes competition with significant financial backing.
State House steps in
President William Ruto has officially backed the event, elevating its status from a street trend to a national spectacle. During an appearance with Lang’ata MP Jalang’o, the President pledged KSh 1 million to each of the fighters.
This contribution is intended to boost the morale of the athletes and recognise the boxing industry.
“Na mimi nawekea Majembe, one million… Mbavu The Destroyer… one million.” — President William Ruto.

Beyond the direct payments to the fighters, the President pledged to cover the cost of 2,000 tickets. This includes 1,000 tickets for Majembe’s supporters and 1,000 for fans of Mbavu Destroyer.
Jalang'o presented the Ksh 4 million from president Ruto to Obinna. The money is inclusive of the ticket money. The move aims to make the match accessible to a broader audience.
Private sector and early sponsors
The corporate world has also begun to invest in the showdown. Rupaz Fun and Fitness Eldoret recently contributed KSh 500,000 to the event. Promoter Oga Obinna announced this donation on social media, noting that the funds would improve fighter preparation and marketing.
