Recent data from the Communications Authority for the first quarter of the 2025/26 fiscal year reveals a striking hierarchy in how citizens engage with the digital world.

At the pinnacle of this shift is the Mobile Smartphone, which serves as the primary gateway for an overwhelming 97.6% of users.

This dominance underscores a "mobile-first" reality where the handheld device is no longer just a luxury but an essential tool for daily life, commerce, and communication.

In contrast, traditional computing devices maintain a much smaller footprint.

Laptops account for only 5.1% of internet access, while Desktops trail significantly at 0.9%. This gap suggests that for the vast majority of Kenyans, the internet is something accessed on the move rather than at a stationary desk.

Emerging trends also highlight the slow but steady rise of home entertainment and specialised portable tech. Smart TVs now facilitate internet access for 1.9% of the population, slightly outpacing Tablets and iPads at 1.1%.
