Kevin Wang'aya in Naibois colours/NAIROBI UNITED

Kenya Under 20 star Kevin Wang’aya has stepped into Nairobi United’s midfield with high expectations. The 20-year-old, a former Kenya U-20 star, aims to help the club push for top-table success this season

“I am ready for this challenge,” Wang’aya said at his unveiling. “I want to bring creativity and energy to the midfield, help control the game, and support the team in achieving its objectives.”

Wang’aya arrives at Nairobi United with an impressive resume. He starred for the Kenya U-20 Rising Stars, helping the team qualify for the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time. His performances earned him a place in the tournament’s Group Stage Best XI—a first for any Kenyan player.

“One of my proudest moments was the draw against Nigeria,” Wang’aya said. “Being named Man of the Match against such a strong team showed me that I can compete at the highest level.”

Nairobi United officials said his vision, technical ability, and composure under pressure were key reasons behind the signing.

“We are thrilled to welcome Kevin to the Nairobi United family,” the club said in a statement. “His ability to read the game and create opportunities brings a new dimension to our squad.”

Wang’aya will be tasked with providing stability and control in the middle of the park, an area the club has targeted for reinforcement this season.

“I know expectations are high, but I’m ready for the challenge,” he said. “I aim to help the team perform consistently and push for the top positions in the league.”

He emphasised teamwork and hopes he will adapt quickly to the club’s style. “I am joining a club with big ambitions,” he said. “I want to make an impact, learn from my teammates, and contribute to the success of the team.”

The club described Wang’aya’s arrival as part of a broader strategy to strengthen squad depth. “Kevin is a player who reads the game very well,” a club spokesperson said. “He can influence matches and create opportunities, which aligns with our tactical vision.”

For Wang’aya, the move represents both opportunity and responsibility. “This is a big step for me,” he said. “I want to help the team control the tempo and make a difference every time I step on the field.”

Officials praised his maturity and leadership, noting that his international experience has prepared him to handle pressure.

“His performances at youth tournaments have taught him how to deliver consistently,” a club source said. “We are confident he will adapt quickly and be a key player for us this season.”

As Nairobi United gears up for the rest of the season, Wang’aya’s role will be pivotal in controlling games and dictating play.

“Every new signing adds strength to our squad,” said the team’s technical director. “Kevin is an exciting addition, and we believe he will play a pivotal role this season.”

Wang’aya stressed that his focus is on the team rather than individual glory. “I am here to give my best every match,” he said. “If I score, good. If I help someone else score, that’s also good. The team comes first.”

The Premier League club now looks to integrate the young midfielder quickly, hoping his experience at the international youth level will translate into consistent performances in domestic competition.

“With Kevin, we expect composure, vision, and tactical awareness in midfield,” the club added. “He has the tools to help the team challenge for top positions this season.”
