Music & concerts: How to protect your hearing/WILLIAM WANYOIKE

Music concerts and live events expose audiences to high sound levels that can damage hearing if not managed properly.

The World Health Organization advises concertgoers to take simple steps to reduce the risk of noise-induced hearing loss.

These include asking for free earplugs at venues, using quiet zones to rest the ears, and monitoring sound levels with decibel-checking smartphone apps.

Sitting or standing away from speakers can significantly lower sound exposure.

After attending loud events, listeners are encouraged to take a “quiet day” to allow their ears to recover.

The WHO also urges organisers to install sound systems that meet safe listening standards to protect audiences.
