APS Bomet head coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo/ HANDOUT

APS Bomet head coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo praised his side’s discipline and mental strength after they defeated Nairobi United 2-1 in an FKF Premier League match at Nyayo Stadium on Wednesday. “This was a big performance for us and the players showed courage and focus,” Omollo said.

The APS Bomet tactician revealed his team travelled to Nairobi with a clear plan. “We came here knowing what was expected,” he said. “Everyone understood the task.”

APS Bomet took the lead in the 21st minute through Antony Naibei, who finished decisively after a quick transition caught Nairobi United off guard. The visitors then adopted a compact shape, absorbing pressure as the hosts dominated possession.

Omollo credited his players for sticking to instructions under sustained pressure. “They stayed organised,” he said. “That was the key.”

Nairobi United pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but APS Bomet remained composed. “We didn’t panic,” Omollo added. “Even when they pushed, we stayed calm.”

The visitors doubled their lead in the 68th minute through substitute Dickson Mwangi. Introduced moments earlier, Mwangi showed composure to calmly slot home and stun the Nyayo crowd. “The substitutions worked,” Omollo said. “That’s the reward for preparation.”

Omollo also highlighted his side’s game management in the closing stages. “We managed the moments well,” he said. “That’s how you win tough games.”

Nairobi United pulled one back in the 77th minute, raising hopes of a comeback, but APS Bomet defended resolutely to see out the match.

“This was a team victory,” Omollo said. “Every player contributed.

Despite the result, Omollo urged caution. “This changes nothing if we relax,” he said. “We must keep fighting.”

The victory lifts APS Bomet to 14th on the FKF Premier League standings with 18 points, boosting their survival hopes. Nairobi United remain 10th with 25 points.

Nairobi United head coach Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor admitted his side failed to capitalise on their dominance. “This one hurts,” Oduor said. “We had a chance to move closer.”

He pointed to lapses in concentration as decisive. “We switched off at key moments,” he said. “That cost us.”

Oduor felt his side controlled large periods without being effective. “We had the ball,” he said. “But possession alone is not enough.”

He also lamented missed chances. “We created opportunities,” Oduor said. “But we didn’t finish them.”

Despite the setback, Oduor called for a swift response. “There is no time to feel sorry,” he said. “We must respond.”
