The election took place during the Union’s National Delegates Conference at Tom Mboya Labour College on January 30, 2026.

The Registrar of Trade Unions, Ann Kanake, on Monday issued an official extract confirming the outcome of the polls and the newly elected officials.

The Registrar confirmed that the officials will continue to represent workers in key institutions and enterprises.

These include the Social Health Authority, the National Social Security Fund, East African Breweries Limited, Del Monte Kenya and Kenya Breweries Limited, alongside major retail and commercial companies across the country.

Kinyua takes over after the suspension of Boniface Kavuvi in June 2025.

The Union said the suspension was carried out “in line with the Union’s constitution and internal governance processes.”

Other officials were also elected during the conference.

Philip Kwoba was elected Chairman. Peter Ngugi was named 1st Deputy General Secretary.

Dickens Atela was elected 2nd Deputy General Secretary, while Rebecca Nyathogora took the position of Treasurer General.

In his acceptance remarks, Kinyua pledged to focus on growth and strong representation.

He committed himself to “strengthening KUCFAW through aggressive membership growth, enhanced workplace representation, and firm defense of the welfare, rights, and dignity of all members.”

He also said the Union would work to “consolidate the Union’s presence across organised retail, food processing, manufacturing, hospitality, logistics, and allied commercial sectors.”

He emphasised the importance of “deepening social dialogue with employers and government agencies.”

KUCFAW represents workers from a wide range of sectors.

These include commercial retail, supermarkets, food and beverage manufacturing, agro-processing, breweries, logistics and distribution, hospitality and allied services.

The Union also represents workers in statutory institutions linked to social protection.

The Union currently has a membership of over 300,000 workers.

KUCFAW remains one of the strongest affiliates of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (Kenya) and plays a key role in the national labour movement and the advancement of workers’ rights in Kenya.
