The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has announced plans to start mass voter registration as it seeks to expand its register ahead of next year’s general elections.
The exercise, set to begin on March 29, is expected to add about five million voters to the register.
“Enhanced voter registration will begin on March 29, 2026. It will be ward-based. The objective is to expand the voter register from 22.1 million to approximately 27.4 million voters,” Ethekon said.
He spoke during a meeting with MPs on the electoral body’s preparedness for next year’s general election.
He was accompanied by fellow commissioners and the agency’s secretariat, headed by CEO Hussein Marjan.
Currently, the commission is conducting continuous voter registration, with potential voters required to visit constituency offices.
The exercise began on Monday, September 29.
IEBC is targeting to enlist 6.3 million new eligible voters, 70 per cent of whom are youths.
