The family of renowned gospel DJ Karumba Ngatia, popularly known as DJ Krowbar, has announced the death of his wife, Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, following a prolonged illness.

In a formal statement issued by the family, Joyce died in the early hours of Monday, January 26, 2026, at 3 a.m.

The family said the announcement was made with profound sadness, describing Joyce as a beloved wife and a cherished individual affectionately known to many as Joy.

According to the family, Joyce demonstrated immense courage and faith throughout a challenging health journey. The family disclosed that she underwent a kidney transplant in mid-last year, after which she faced a series of medical complications.

The family noted that towards the end of the year, Joyce developed an infection, which was managed. However, she later presented further medical challenges. She was briefly discharged and returned home two weeks before being readmitted for further care.

The family described Joyce as leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience.

She is survived by her devoted husband, DJ Krowbar, and their three children — Toria, Riri and Imani.

“The family is united in grief but anchored by their faith,” the statement read.

While mourning her loss, the family said they had found comfort in their faith, noting that Joyce is now at peace. They appealed to the public for prayers and understanding as they navigate the difficult period.

“While we are deeply saddened by this profound loss, we find comfort knowing she is now at perfect peace. As we navigate this difficult time, we kindly ask for your prayers, your love, and your respect for our privacy as we gather to make arrangements for her final journey,” the statement said.

The family added that further details regarding funeral arrangements would be communicated in due course.

They also expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who have offered support, prayers, and encouragement during Joyce’s illness and after her passing. The family acknowledged the overwhelming outpouring of love from friends, well-wishers, and the wider public.

At the same time, they made a specific request to the public and the media to respect their need for privacy as they mourn and plan.

The statement encouraged people to continue holding the Karumba family in prayer.

“Stay in prayer,” the family said.

The message concluded with a Bible verse drawn from Psalm 31:5, which read: “Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, LORD, my faithful God.”

For those wishing to support the family with funeral arrangements, the Krowbars shared M-PESA Paybill details.
