
Kenya has recorded steady growth in the number of active taxpayers over the past seven years, reflecting expanded tax registration and compliance efforts.
Data from the Kenya Revenue Authority shows active taxpayers rose from 5.1 million in the 2018/19 financial year to 9.87 million in 2024/25.
The figure climbed consistently through the period, reaching 5.77 million in 2019/20, 6.55 million in 2020/21 and 7.23 million in 2021/22.
Growth accelerated further to 8.15 million in 2022/23 and 9.67 million in 2023/24.
KRA said the 2023/24 financial year closed with about 9.7 million active taxpayers, underscoring sustained expansion of the tax base.
