Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a service outage on Friday, leaving users unable to access the platform across several regions.
Users reported difficulties loading the site and application, with many encountering error messages reading, “Something went wrong. Try reloading,” alongside a “retry” prompt.
Others said their feeds failed to refresh, while some were unable to post updates or view notifications.
Reports of the disruption emerged from multiple countries, including Kenya and other parts of Africa, as well as Europe and North America, suggesting the outage was not limited to a single region.
The issue affected both the mobile application and the web version of the platform.
Data from online outage-monitoring platforms showed a sharp increase in user reports during the period of disruption, indicating widespread access problems. Some users reported intermittent access, while others said the platform remained unavailable for extended periods.
During the outage, users turned to alternative social media platforms to report the problem and share updates, as access to timelines, direct messages, and notifications on X remained unreliable. Journalists, businesses, and public institutions that rely on the platform for real-time communication were also affected.
At the time of publication, X had not issued an official statement explaining the cause of the outage or providing an estimated timeline for service restoration. It was also unclear whether the disruption was linked to technical maintenance, system failures, or other issues.
The outage temporarily disrupted the flow of real-time information on the platform, which is widely used for breaking news, public announcements, and live updates on global events.
Some users reported that access began to return gradually, though others continued to experience errors and loading problems as the situation developed. X users continued to report access issues at the time of reporting.
