Naomi Kuria’s Heartbreaking Story: From South B to Githurai in Just One Week

In a detailed interview with Oga Obinna, Naomi Kuria recounted a period of sudden and challenging change in her family when she was 19 years old.

She clarified that the events were not connected to any personal misconduct or substance use, noting that she never smoked weed in high school.

Kuria identified her late father as the central figure behind the family’s transformation, describing him as having gone through a “very down side of life” while trying to support the household.

From Comfort to Hardship in One Week

According to Kuria, the family’s lifestyle shifted dramatically in just one week. Their residence changed from South B to Githurai, marking a stark contrast from their previous good life.

Naomi recalled that her father once drove a vehicle with a red number plate, signifying stability and status.

However, this changed abruptly when he took on work as a tuk-tuk driver. "My dad was driving a red number plate car became a tuk tuk driver," she said.

She reflected that her father appeared to be experiencing depression amid professional and personal setbacks. 

Lessons in Self-Reliance
Kuria explained that her father’s response to the family’s decline included making difficult decisions for his children. 

He asked her and her sister to leave the house, telling them that they had truly seen that life is not easy.

His explanation emphasized that he did not want to maintain a household where the children might assume life was simple or manageable, instead wanting them to confront reality directly.

The Lockout Policy
During this period, her father enforced a strict daily schedule. Determined to teach his children the realities of life. He told them bluntly, “You have truly seen that life is not easy.

The house would be locked at 6:00 a.m. and remained closed until 6:00 p.m., with the siblings instructed to go find something to do during those twelve hours. 

Naomi described these routines as formative, recognizing that her father was “going through life for us” while managing his own difficulties.

Kuria indicated that the story she shared represents only a portion of the full narrative. After recounting the move and her father’s strict rules, she told the audience that they were currently only “10% in” to the complete story of her life and her father’s history.
