A November 2025 survey by the Central Bank of Kenya reveals that transport costs are the most significant factor affecting retail prices, with 93 per cent of respondents identifying them as a primary driver.
Weather conditions, including droughts and floods, follow closely at 82 per cent.
Other influential factors include input prices for seeds and fertiliser, as well as the distance to market, both cited by 72 per cent of participants.
While supply chain disruptions and middlemen also play notable roles, the majority of respondents disagreed that US trade tariffs significantly impact local retail costs.
