Nollywood actress Regina Daniels has reignited public debate surrounding her ongoing fallout with estranged husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, after revealing that she underwent a drug test abroad to counter claims that she struggles with substance abuse.
Regina, who has recently been vocal on social media, said the test was meant to put to rest allegations made by the senator that she is a drug addict, claims that have lingered since their highly publicised separation and custody battle.
Senator’s camp dismisses results as “misleading”
In a strongly worded statement released by Senator Nwoko’s communication team, the lawmaker dismissed the foreign drug test as misleading, insisting that a single negative result does not invalidate earlier medical assessments conducted in Nigeria and South Africa.
According to the statement, the senator maintains that two independent and reputable rehabilitation centres previously documented drug and alcohol use following professional evaluations. The centres, the release notes, produced formal reports that are expected to be presented in court, with the facilities themselves prepared to testify under subpoena.

“Temporary abstinence is not sobriety”
“Temporary abstinence is not sobriety,” the statement reads, arguing that a negative test taken at a time of Regina’s choosing only reflects a period of abstinence and does not erase earlier findings or the circumstances that prompted intervention.
The statement also takes issue with what it describes as attempts to downplay the seriousness of MDMA, commonly referred to as Molly, stressing that renaming the substance does not reduce its risks or impact on judgment and stability.
Claims of failed private rehabilitation efforts
Senator Nwoko’s team further claims that long before the matter became public, he explored private rehabilitation options for Regina, including structured and sustained therapy, but alleges those efforts were unsuccessful due to denial of the problem.

Custody ruling and court-ordered therapy
Referencing last year’s custody ruling, the press release states that the court granted custody to the senator and dismissed what it termed “unsubstantiated human rights abuse claims.” It further alleges that the court ordered Regina to undergo supervised therapy with proof of compliance—an issue the senator says he deliberately kept out of the public eye.
According to the statement, the senator allowed Regina time to seek help privately in order to preserve her relationship with their children without public pressure or media scrutiny.

Social media vs court evidence
While Regina has framed the recent drug test as evidence of her sobriety, the senator’s camp insists that accountability requires acknowledging past challenges and committing to long-term professional support, rather than addressing the issue through social media engagement.
The statement stresses that a single test does not outweigh professionally documented assessments previously conducted by independent centres.
What happens next
The press release concludes by noting that any medical test, regardless of where it is conducted, will face court scrutiny. It adds that the court may appoint an independent and credible laboratory to verify all claims.
