A survey conducted across five counties in the Mulembe region reveals the top issues that residents consider critical for national negotiations.
Roads and infrastructure emerged as the leading priority, with 21 per cent of respondents citing it as their foremost concern. This was followed closely by the cost of living at 17 per cent.
Other key issues include access to markets for agricultural produce (12 per cent), revival of the sugar industry (11 per cent), and health services (10 per cent).
Youth employment and education, including Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), were mentioned by 9 per cent each. Devolution funding and security were identified by 5 per cent and 3 per cent, respectively, while 3 per cent of respondents were unsure of their priorities.
The findings reflect the Mulembe community’s focus on economic development, infrastructure improvement, and service delivery.
The prominence of roads and infrastructure indicates the community’s concern for connectivity and trade facilitation, while the cost of living highlights broader economic challenges affecting households.
