The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has renewed its call for motorists to exercise caution around schools, warning that reckless driving in school zones puts the lives of children at serious risk.

In a public safety message, NTSA urged drivers to be mindful and reduce speed when approaching areas where schoolchildren are present.

“Be mindful and slow down in school zones,” the notice read in part.

The advisory is anchored on a universally recognised road sign showing children crossing, a symbol meant to remind drivers that these zones require extra care.

The visual emphasises awareness, responsibility, and patience behind the wheel.

NTSA stresses that school zones are shared spaces where children walk, cross roads, and gather, often during peak traffic hours.

The authority’s message highlights the need for drivers to stay alert and adjust their speed accordingly to prevent avoidable incidents.

The campaign also calls on the public to take an active role in promoting road safety. Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to report dangerous behaviour on the roads, with the notice reading: “Report reckless drivers.”

According to NTSA, members of the public can upload photos or videos of incidents involving reckless driving to the authority’s social media pages.

This approach positions the public as partners in road safety enforcement, reinforcing accountability among road users.

The advisory underscores the importance of collective responsibility, noting that by slowing down and remaining mindful, drivers can help create safer environments for schoolchildren.

NTSA’s warning comes as road safety continues to be a shared concern.

The communication follows a December 30, 2025, advisory in which the authority urged all road users to take extra precautions ahead of the busy back-to-school period. Schools are set to reopen in just a few days.

The authority emphasised that private motorists, public transport operators, school administrators, and parents or guardians all share a responsibility in safeguarding young commuters.

Road users are being advised to strictly comply with traffic rules, plan journeys carefully, and avoid night travel due to reduced visibility.

“In just a few days, thousands of children will be heading back to school. Private motorists, public transport operators, school administrators, and parents or guardians all share a significant responsibility in safeguarding the safety of our children during this busy season. We urge all road users to strictly comply with traffic rules, plan their journeys adequately, and avoid night travel due to reduced visibility,” the statement read.

NTSA also reminded parents and guardians not to allow children to board non-compliant vehicles.
