Detectives are investigating the death of a man who was found drowned at Ruke Waterfall in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, after being reported missing.

Police said the man left his home on December 31 to run errands in the area but did not return.

His two mobile phones were later found near the waterfall the following day.

According to police, the phones were recovered by a member of the public, who later realised they belonged to Kelvin Onyango, who had been reported missing.

A search operation was subsequently launched in the area.

The body was later retrieved from the waterfall after a diver was engaged to assist in the search.

Police said a pair of trousers believed to belong to the deceased was also found at the scene.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigations.

In a separate incident, detectives are also investigating a robbery in which a businessman was shot and injured in Busia Town.

Police said the victim was shot in the right ankle during the December 31, 2025, incident by assailants who were armed with a firearm.

The attackers are reported to have stolen Sh350,000 from him.

The incident occurred at the victim’s hardware store, located a few metres from the Kenya–Uganda border at Madua A village.

Police said two suspects, who arrived on a motorcycle and had concealed their faces, carried out the attack before fleeing towards Uganda.

The victim was rushed to hospital and admitted in stable condition.

Police visited the scene and recovered a spent cartridge as investigations continue.

Elsewhere in Konyango area, Ugenya, Siaya County, a mob set ablaze a saloon car that had been abandoned by individuals suspected of involvement in livestock theft.

Police said the suspects fled the scene during the early morning incident on December 31.

Officers are investigating the ownership of the vehicle and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In another case in Nyamage village, Kisii County, a man was lynched by a mob on allegations of theft.

Police condemned the incident and said investigations have been launched.

Authorities reiterated their call for members of the public to avoid mob justice and instead surrender suspects to the police for lawful action.

The body was moved to a mortuary pending an autopsy and further inquiries.
