Just what is happening at a facility renovated by one of the government agencies? Corridors of Power has reportedly learnt that some officials are allegedly collecting cash for use of the venue, with claims that no official records are being kept of the payments. The arrangement is said to be leaving those hiring the facility in a fix when they have to account for the expenditure to another state agency. Although the facility was reportedly meant to be handed over to a ministry, some officials within the renovating agency are allegedly frustrating the transfer, raising questions about who stands to benefit from the delay. There are now calls for the facility to be handed over to the ministry as intended.

Trouble reportedly appears to have returned to one of the government’s prestigious dockets, with two top officials once again at loggerheads. The pair have clashed before, amid allegations that one has consistently sought to dominate the other within the ministry. Notably, one of the officials reportedly gave a joint engagement a wide berth, having allegedly been shut out of the planning, the event itself and even the programme. Insiders say efforts by the boss to broker peace have so far come to naught.

A governor who has long been firmly in the administration’s camp is reportedly quietly plotting a political exit as he seeks re-election. The county boss, however, is said to be keeping his plans under wraps, supposedly fearing that too much attention could attract the wrath of the powers that be, especially as he already faces hostility in the county assembly. Those in the know say the man is walking a political tightrope, balancing his survival at the ballot box against the possibility of annoying powerful people and potentially getting himself in trouble.

Just how far can political differences go, and how readily can one be used for political expediency? Those are the questions being asked by allies of a vocal Mt Kenya politician after a legislator who fell out with a county boss made a move reportedly interpreted by some as an attempt to scuttle the governor’s political ambitions. The county boss has largely avoided a public confrontation with the MP, but his allies are said to be signalling that the gloves are off. Their warning? The relatively inexperienced politician could find his own career on the chopping board.
