“Leaving Malinya to Lumakanda to receive the body of our departed brother Cyrus Jirongo,” Khalwale captioned the video.

He is then seen singing and dancing to a traditional Luhya folk song together with his delegation before they departed for Jirongo’s home.

He will be buried on Tuesday, December 30, at the Lumakanda home.

“We have agreed on the burial date, which has been set tentatively for December 30, 2025. The former MP had many homes, and questions were being asked as to which home he will be buried,” former Vihiga Senator George Khaniri said on behalf of the burial committee.

Jirongo died on December 13, after his car was involved in a head-on collision with a bus ferrying passengers from Nairobi at Karai area, on the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

The 64-year-old was travelling in his private vehicle along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway when it collided with a passenger bus.

Rift Valley Traffic Enforcement Officer Sarah Chumo said the crash happened at around 3:00 a.m.

The report shows he also had injuries in the spine and legs.

Family pathologist Dr Joseph Ndung’u and chief government pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor were present at the Lee Funeral Home when the exercise was carried out.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said it commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of Jirongo.

Preliminary investigations show the accident involved Jirongo's vehicle and a bus belonging to Climax Company Ltd.

Investigations are ongoing, with the forensic team scheduled to revisit the scene for further analysis.

Detectives are also examining Jirongo's movements prior to the accident, including recording statements from individuals he interacted with on the night in question, notably those present during a meeting at Karen Oasis Bar and Restaurant, Nairobi.

Further analysis of the CCTV footage is underway, and additional statements will be recorded from passengers aboard the Climax Company Limited bus and other witnesses.

Upon completion, a comprehensive police file will be compiled and forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for perusal and advice.
