Share of government expenditure on health in Kenya

According to the latest Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) Economic Survey, the national government’s expenditure on health services is projected to reach about Sh122.0 billion in the 2024/25 financial year, reflecting a 13.4 per cent increase from the previous year’s allocation.

This spending includes both recurrent costs — such as salaries and medical supplies — and development investments in infrastructure and health programmes.

Despite the rise, total government health expenditure remains around 3 per cent of the total national budget, significantly below the 15 per cent Abuja Declaration target agreed by African Union states.
