Police are investigating an incident in which a man reportedly shot dead a bouncer at a nightclub in Machakos County.
According to a police source, the suspect surrendered himself to Machakos Police Station shortly after committing the act. The incident occurred at the club on Wednesday night.
Officers moved the 41-year-old victim’s body to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary, where it awaits an autopsy. The bouncer was reportedly a well-known figure in Machakos town, according to multiple sources.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives attached to Machakos Police Station have launched inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Unverified reports suggest a possible love triangle may have played a role in the incident.
Machakos Subcounty Criminal Investigations Officer, Nzioka Singi, confirmed that both the suspect and a woman had been detained at the station following the incident.
Independent sources, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, told The Star that there was a commotion at the club before the shooting. They said a disagreement between the deceased and the woman escalated, ultimately leading to the fatal attack.
“Drama unfolded at the club on Wednesday night involving a bouncer and a reveller. The woman, who is known to the deceased, became involved in a disagreement that escalated quickly. The main suspect then stormed in and shot the bouncer dead,” a source told The Star on Thursday.
The suspect reportedly fired at least three shots, killing the victim instantly. Both the deceased and the suspect are said to have been acquainted with the woman.
It remains unclear what initially triggered the altercation between the woman and the deceased before the man appeared and opened fire.
“Shortly after a confrontation between the deceased and the woman, another man entered, drew a firearm, and shot the bouncer multiple times at close range, killing him on the spot. The suspect later drove to Machakos Police Station and surrendered himself. He was arrested and locked up,” the source added.
Police officers, together with Scene of Crime Investigation personnel and homicide detectives, processed the scene before the body was removed to the mortuary.
