A video showing former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko confronting his son-in-law for allegedly assaulting Salma recently went viral, drawing intense reactions across social media.

In the emotional clip, Sonko questions why a man he fully supports—paying rent, providing food and covering various expenses—would repeatedly harm his daughter.

“If I hit you, how would you feel? And this is not the first time,” Sonko is heard saying, as the man apologises. Many Kenyans applauded Sonko, calling him a father willing to stand up against gender-based violence without hesitation.

Fans Flood Saumu’s Page—But She Rejects Marriage Offers

The incident also brought attention to Saumu, with fans flocking to her TikTok page. Some expressed concern, others offered words of support, and a few even offered to marry her.

But Saumu dismissed the proposals quickly.

Responding to one light-hearted comment, she said:
“I left that group a long time ago—unless a miracle happens. I’m busy building my own empire.”

When another follower promised to buy her a car if she accepted his hand in marriage, she politely declined:
“Look for someone else—I closed that chapter.”

A History of Painful Relationships

Saumu’s hesitation toward marriage is rooted in her past. She has two daughters—one with entrepreneur Ben Gatu and another with former Lamu Senator Anwar Loitiptip. Both relationships ended amid allegations of abuse.

In a 2022 interview with Mpasho, Saumu openly shared how she often rushed into relationships without giving herself time to heal.

She admitted that she once feared being single, which led to patterns that eventually harmed her emotional well-being.

She later confirmed in 2021 that she had walked away from Loitiptip, embracing single motherhood fully.

Despite their troubled history, she maintains a positive co-parenting relationship with Gatu, often praising him for being present in their daughter’s life.

A Fresh Start in Dubai

The businesswoman, mental health advocate and political aspirant has since relocated to Dubai, a move she says aligns with her values and future ambitions.

In 2023, she was appointed Machakos State Chair for the Anti-Gender Based Violence wing under the All-Ladies League—an achievement that reaffirmed her commitment to advocacy.

Motherhood Remains Her Foundation

Saumu celebrates her daughters as her greatest source of joy. Interestingly, both girls share the same birthday, though they were born in different years. She describes them as responsible, cooperative and the reason she finds strength in single motherhood.

“I don’t regret anything as long as I have my children. They are my happiness,” she said.

She also credits her parents for their unwavering support. Her mother plays a significant role in helping raise the children, while she describes her father as the “strongest pillar” in her life.

Taking Time Before Starting Over

Saumu says she is giving herself time—time to grow, time to understand herself, and time to heal. Words she echoed in her 2022 Mpasho interview stay true today: she is determined not to rush into love again.

“I want to go for as many vacations as possible. I don’t want to hurry,” she said.

For now, marriage is not on the horizon—and Saumu seems entirely comfortable with that decision. If anything changes, she says, it will take nothing short of a miracle.
