The late Betty Bayo’s husband, Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, addressed guests during a memorial mass held at their home in Eden Ville.

Close friends of the late gospel singer were invited to the gathering, where Terence Creative served as MC and introduced Tash to welcome attendees.

Seated alongside his children, Sky Victor and Danny, Tash took to the front to speak. He reflected on the shock of Betty’s passing and expressed gratitude for the support they had received.

"How are you guys? I am Tash, Bayo's husband. This is home, and you are welcome. I want to thank you for praying for us and being with us. The support you have given us is immense. We used to live here with my departed wife, and I have my kids here who will only say hi. These are my kids; we lived here with Bayo as a family. It was a shock, and they will not speak today," he said.

Kanyari Reflects on His Relationship with Betty and Tash

Pastor Victor Kanyari, Betty’s former husband and father of her children Sky and Danny, also shared his reflections.

He expressed respect for Tash, acknowledging the cordial relationship they maintain for the sake of the children.

In an exclusive interview with Obidan Dela, Kanyari said, "They are working together. I do not know why some people are saying this and others that, but we should support both parties. They have both lost someone who was very dear to them."

He also shared that Sky affectionately calls Tash “daddy,” which he respects, noting that he continues to love and support his children.

Pastor Kanyari Opens Up About His Grief

Following Betty’s passing on Monday, November 11, from acute myeloid leukaemia, Pastor Kanyari has openly displayed his grief.

He was seen visibly dejected at Kenyatta National Hospital and later broke down as her body was moved to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, November 12, Kanyari explained that he had not been aware of Betty’s illness prior to her death, which compounded his pain.

He described the emotional turmoil he has experienced, including sleepless nights and recurring nightmares:

"It is very painful for me. Yesterday I did not sleep; I had nightmares of Betty more than three times. Every time I fell asleep, I would dream that my child was asking me where their mum was. I slept with a disturbed conscience."

He added that he is still struggling to accept her death:

"I even think she has not truly died. When I see her in photos, I feel like she is still alive. Other people might forget her, but I shall never forget the mother of my kids, and my kids will never forget her."

Kanyari concluded by requesting prayers for himself, Betty’s children, her mother, and her husband, Tash, as they navigate this profound loss.
