Reggae star Jah Cure will remain behind bars for a longer period after the Amsterdam Court of Appeal increased his prison sentence to eight years and four months for the 2021 stabbing of a concert promoter.
A representative of the Netherlands Prosecution Service confirmed to Observer Online that the Supreme Court issued the ruling on October 30.
The case dates back to 2021, when Jah Cure — real name Siccature Alcock — was accused of stabbing Nicardo “Papa” Blake, a Dutch concert promoter, during a business dispute over payment for a performance in Amsterdam.
According to court documents, Jah Cure allegedly waited for the victim at Dam Square, where he stabbed him in the stomach in broad daylight following the disagreement.

For months, Dutch prosecutors pursued an appeal against Jah Cure’s acquittal for attempted murder in his initial trial, while the artist’s defense team appealed his attempted manslaughter conviction.
Jah Cure had been sentenced in March 2022 to six years in prison for attempted manslaughter after being acquitted of the more serious attempted murder charge.

The trial judges at the time ruled that his actions were not premeditated.
However, the Court of Appeal overturned that aspect of the ruling, finding that Jah Cure’s actions were indeed planned, and therefore imposed the extended sentence.
The singer, known for hits such as Love Is and Unconditional Love, has been in pre-trial detention in Amsterdam since his arrest, awaiting the outcome of the prosecution’s appeal.
